Preamble
These Terms of Service (hereinafter referred to as the "Terms") define the conditions for using the application and related services (hereinafter referred to as the "Service") provided by the KokuDoku Operator (hereinafter referred to as the "Operator"). Users shall agree to these Terms before using the Service.
Article 1: Content of the Service
- The Service provides the following functions. This Service is intended for general users (individuals), and users shall not use the Service for purposes other than those listed below:
- Extracting specific text information from photos of physical books taken by the user with a smartphone.
- Importing highlights made in e-books.
- Saving highlights acquired from physical books in a format that allows for free browsing.
- Adding personal notes to each acquired highlight.
- Providing support for summarizing and analyzing acquired highlights via AI.
- The Service may offer integration features with external services such as Amazon Kindle, Notion, and GitHub. When using such integrations, users must agree to and comply with the terms of the respective external service. The Operator assumes no responsibility for the user's use of external services unless otherwise specified in these Terms.
Article 2: Definitions
The terms used in these Terms are defined as follows:
- "User Content" refers to content (including reading notes, memos, summaries, etc.) transmitted or stored by the user through the Service.
- "Saved Data" refers individually or collectively to highlights acquired, notes/summaries created, and usage history information within the Service.
- "Intellectual Property Rights" refers to copyrights, patents, utility model rights, trademarks, design rights, and any other intellectual property rights, including the right to acquire or apply for registration of such rights.
Article 3: Application of the Service
- These Terms apply to all users of the Service. By using the Service, a user is deemed to have agreed to these Terms.
- These Terms cover all applications and web services provided under the Service.
- The right to use the Service granted to the user is non-exclusive and cannot be transferred, sublicensed, or inherited by any third party.
- Certain features of the Service include functions utilizing generative AI (hereinafter "Generative AI Features"). Users must comply with the following when using these features. By using Generative AI Features, users are deemed to have agreed to all conditions related to them as outlined in these Terms:
- Compliance with the Copyright Act, Personal Information Protection Act, and other relevant laws.
- Understanding the characteristics of generative AI (such as hallucinations and bias), independently judging the appropriateness of outputs, and using them strictly as a support tool for reading or learning.
- Anonymizing information before input and refraining from entering confidential or personal information.
- Minors must obtain consent from a legal representative, such as a parent or guardian, before using the Service. If a minor uses the Service, they are deemed to have obtained such consent.
Article 4: User Registration
- To use the Service, a user must agree to these Terms, apply for registration through the method prescribed by the Operator, and receive approval. The Operator will judge the application based on its criteria and notify the applicant upon approval, at which point registration is complete.
- The Operator may refuse or cancel registration if the applicant falls under any of the following, and is not obligated to explain the reason:
- Providing false, erroneous, or incomplete information during registration.
- Being a minor without the consent of a legal representative.
- Having previously violated these Terms or terms of other services provided by the Operator.
- Being determined by the Operator to be an "Anti-Social Force" (organized crime groups, members, associates, etc.) or involved in supporting such groups.
- If the Operator determines that providing the Service continuously is difficult.
- Any other reason the Operator deems inappropriate.
- Users must promptly notify the Operator of any changes to their registration information. If a user fails to notify the Operator of a contact information change, any notice sent to the previous contact shall be deemed delivered at the time it would normally arrive. The Operator is not responsible for any damages resulting from an inability to contact the user.
